Nimilita Chatterhee worked in the retail banking industry mainly in analytics and transitioned into the business area to understand and experience firsthand the power of executing strategies. Having worked in organizations that have had established Banking operations in India to those that were starting up, her experience has been varied across establishing operational processes to implementation of decisioning systems for account management. The insights from data and the uses it can be put to in the real business context continue to capture her imagination.

After having graduated from XLRI with a specialization in Marketing, she spent the mandatory first 2 years of her life with Titan industries in sales and marketing where she experienced the harsh realities of selling in the market. She then unknowingly transitioned into the very new and developing world of business intelligence with Standard Chartered Bank where she worked with stalwarts of the retail banking world in the area of credit cards. The job entailed growing from a business analyst delivering standardized MIS to users to being the analytics business partner to the unsecured lending business which involved delivery of insightful analysis of customer behavior, development of go-forward strategy, creation of effective tracking mechanisms of campaign effectiveness and standardization and accuracy of MIS and reports to facilitate data backed decision making. In her experience with Standard Chartered, she worked with multiple etail banking business which covered current and savings accounts, credit cards and personal loans. They also pioneered the concept of creating customer level profitability and maximization of customer value powered by behavioural and transactional data.

Nimilita moved into Barclays when they came to India in 2007 to set up the retail banking operations. As the head of products for credit cards, she had the opportunity to work on the execution side of the business and implement my learning’s from the business intelligence perspective. Being a startup which was coming into a market that had all the large MNC Banks and private and public sector banks well entrenched, the experience proved to be enriching both from an operational and strategic point of view and provided the “practical” aspect to her career. Currently Vice President, Products, Equifax Credit Information Services where she is part of the core team that launched the credit bureau business of Equifax in India. She is responsible for providing a user’s perspective to facilitate a largely technology led company with no experience in India in the creation of new products, customization of relevant products from the US product suite and delivery into the nascent Indian credit bureau market. The best part of the job remains the continuous challenge of moving from being a user to a provider of information to Banks and financial institutions.
